I am just In love with the theme of the Seven lucky Gods & i just had the honor to meet this outstanding Netsukes of the Seven Lucky gods or the Seven Fortune of Japan. Each netsuke represent different god & each god has his own features. All Seven Netsukes are standing together on a wooden stand & they are creating a beatiful set of the Seven Luck gods – Netsukes Collection.

Daikoku
God of Wealth, Farmers, Agriculture, Rice, & Kitchen. Daikoku has been most widely known as the Japanese god of wealth and farmers, although in earlier centuries he was considered a fierce protector deity. In Japan, artwork of this deity usually shows him wearing a hood and standing on bales of rice (tawara ?), carrying a large sack of treasure slung over his shoulder and holding a small magic mallet.

Fukurokuju

Goddess of Music, Poetry, Learning, Art River Goddess, Protector of the Nation, Patron of Children
Benzaiten is the sole female among the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan. Her temples and shrines are almost invariably in the neighborhood of water — the sea, a river, or a pond. She is the patroness of music, the fine arts (dancing, acting, visual), and good fortune in general, and is often shown carrying a biwa (Japanese mandolin) or playing a lute. She is often represented as a beautiful woman with the power to assume the form of a serpent, or shown seated on a dragon or serpent and playing a lute. In fact, the snake is almost always associated with Benzaiten, who was originally a Hindu deity (Sarasvati) who represented learning, music and poetry. Such artistic learning and wisdom often bring prosperity, hence her inclusion in the Japanese group of seven luckies. She also has a jewel that grants desires. Some say it is a jade, while others say it is a pearl.

When i hold this Netsuke in my hands – i was thrilled – It’s so exiting to get such Netsuke & to hold it in your hands.
Take a good look at each face it’s so amazing that i want to cry.
I just wanted to thank god that he gave me the opportunity to hold this museum quality Mammoth ivory netsuke even just for a short time.
This Netsuke was hand carved by top skilled master carver & signed by him – he depicted ten Masks Faces to perfection.
He selected to work with Mammoth Ivory from the extincted woolly Mammoth that roamed the earth before 10,000 years ago. We can notice on the Netsuke the “V” shape angles that depicted to the Mammoth ivory that different from any other Ivory.
It’s amazing how can the artist succeeded to combine between his delicate carving & to exposed the mammoth ivory raw material.
